Hamilton Park

Hamilton Park is a part of Dallas Black history constructed from 1954 to 1961 in response to a housing shortage in the Black community the neighborhood was constructed on an empty piece of land for African Americans who relocated from other sections of Dallas. It sits between Central Expressway (US75), I-635, and Forest Lane but can hardly be seen from any of these roadways.
Hamilton Park is still a complete neighborhood consisting of several hundred houses, parks, churches, a school, and a city of Dallas recreation center. Most of the original modest wood frame single story houses remain, many of which have been modified over the years. The neighborhood is now surrounded by major office development and is adjacent to the Forest Lane DART light rail station. Although no longer all Black, African Americans are still the in Hamilton Park.
Median Household income in this mostly working-class community is $38,000 and median home values are about $75,000. Although Hamilton Park is located in the city of Dallas, like Lake Highlands it is served by the Richardson Independent School District.
